This holiday season, seniors living in several Savannah-area senior apartment communities received an unexpected—and much‑needed—gift thanks to the generosity of Toby Hollenberg and the Hospice Savannah Foundation.
As many older adults continue to feel the effects of funding cuts and rising food costs, winter can be an especially difficult time. For some, holiday celebrations can bring added worry about how to afford groceries and other essentials. Recognizing this need, Toby Hollenberg partnered with the Hospice Foundation and the CAPABLE program to ensure that seniors facing these challenges would have a little extra support—and a little extra joy.
For many, the gesture provided not just nutrition, but comfort, dignity, and reassurance that their community cares deeply for their well‑being. Through the donation, the Hospice Foundation and CAPABLE program were able to obtain $50 gifts cards from Kroger, Publix, and Food Lion for 28 seniors.
The CAPABLE team had the privilege of hand delivering gift cards at Savannah Summit, Savannah Gardens, Stillwell Towers, Rose of Sharon, Sister’s Court, Veranda, and Ash Branch Manor to residents who were identified by their resident coordinators to be most in need and struggling due to lower incomes. The team saw firsthand how much this act of kindness meant to the seniors. These gifts served as a reminder that when our community comes together, we can make a meaningful difference—one household, one meal, and one compassionate gesture at a time.
