Volunteer

Serving as a Hospice Savannah volunteer can challenge you, fill your heart and enrich your life. Our volunteers are men, women and teens (ages 16 – 17) who have a sincere desire to help others and have two to four hours per week to volunteer. You will be prepared for your role through a free, comprehensive training program. No previous experience in the medical field is necessary. Teens must have parental consent to participate.

After training, we will ask you to submit to a fingerprint criminal background check (in order to comply with the Georgia Long-term Care Background Check Program) and you will meet our Occupational Health Nurse for a health screen and TB testing. Both the COVID-19 and flu vaccinations are required; if you decline the flu vaccine, you must submit a declination form.

If you choose to work with our patients, you will receive additional training with our clinical staff.

How We Utilize Our Volunteers

You can provide companionship to patients in their homes, in local nursing homes or assisted living facilities, or in our Hospice Inpatient Unit (HIPU). As a patient and family volunteer, you may run errands, provide music, prepare an easy meal, or simply provide a friendly conversation.

You may be a professional photographer or a licensed beautician or a certified massage therapist who would like to share your skills, or you and your certified therapy dog may enjoy becoming part of our Hug-a-Pet program.

If you choose not to volunteer directly with patients, you may want to help our Full Circle bereavement staff make follow-up calls to family members after their loved one has died, help counselors facilitate grief support groups or volunteer at our annual children’s Grief Camp.

Other options include using your data processing and computer skills to volunteer in our administrative offices or becoming involved with Community Outreach activities.
