Hospice Inpatient Unit

When Is Inpatient Hospice Care Needed?

Patients may benefit from care in the Hospice Inpatient Unit when symptoms become difficult to manage at home and require more intensive nursing care and medical oversight.

Common reasons for admission include:

  • Uncontrolled pain
  • Shortness of breath
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Anxiety or agitation
  • Complex symptom management needs

The goal is to stabilize symptoms and improve comfort while helping patients avoid unnecessary hospital admissions whenever possible.

Comprehensive Support for Patients and Families

Our interdisciplinary team provides expert care while supporting the emotional, spiritual, and practical needs of both patients and families.

Services may include:

  • Physician oversight
  • Skilled nursing care
  • Pain and symptom management
  • Social work support
  • Spiritual care
  • Volunteer support
  • Music therapy
  • Massage therapy
  • Story Keeping
  • Pet therapy

Every aspect of care is designed to promote comfort, dignity, and quality of life.

Support for Caregivers

Caring for a loved one can be physically and emotionally demanding. Through Medicare’s respite care benefit, eligible caregivers may receive a temporary break while their loved one receives care in the Hospice Inpatient Unit for up to five consecutive days.

Respite stays provide caregivers with an opportunity to rest, recharge, and attend to their own well-being while knowing their loved one is receiving compassionate, expert care.

A Place for Families, Too

The Hospice Inpatient Unit was designed not only for patients, but also for those who love them. Families are encouraged to remain involved throughout the patient’s stay and have access to welcoming gathering spaces, quiet areas for reflection, and comfortable accommodations for spending time together.

These spaces help create opportunities for connection, comfort, and meaningful moments during an important time in a family’s journey.

A Trusted Community Resource
